Employer Animal Control Officer Animal Services Posting 1261-374 Description: Responsible
for enforcing the Orange County Animal Control Ordinance and NC State Law as
it relates to animal welfare. Patrols assigned areas(s) in an animal control
vehicle to monitor: violations, animals in distress, and citizen’s
complaints; issue verbal and written warnings; issue citations; testifies in
court; investigates animal attacks/bites and places biting animals in
quarantine; prepares and maintains a variety of computerized reports as well
as written logs and forms; interacts with public and provides educational materials
as needed; performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 8:00 am to
5:00 pm, Monday –Friday. Shares after- hour on call duties with other animal
control officers on a rotational basis. Requirements: Requires any

school and at least one year of related experience or animal related
training. Requires effective verbal and written communication skills, basic
math skills, ability to interpret ordinances and other written materials, ability to
prioritize duties within a busy work environment, and relay information to

direct contact with aggressive and injured animals, and to lift up to 75 lbs.
Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, lift, reach and crawl. Prefer related
experience and certification with the National Animal Control Academy (NACA)
or similar certification program.

Position requires excellent
organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced
environment. Responsibilities include interacting and assisting members of
the public and various stakeholders on department programs and services;
answering high volumes of calls on a multi-line telephone system; taking
citizen complaints and dispatching them to animal control officers; entering
data for animals and clients using a specialized software; and maintaining
department files and records. In
addition, this position helps citizens bringing and reclaiming animals;
completes lost and found reports; performs a daily inventory of all animals
in the facility; receives and processes licensing and other payments and
performs high volumes of data entry for rabies certificates and pet
licensing; performs various monetary transactions and a daily reconciliation;
and processes all paperwork associated with animal adoptions. This position
requires cross training about adoptions, animal intakes and animal control
functions, works a flexible schedule, and performs other duties as
assigned. The ideal candidate must
have excellent interpersonal skills; be highly organized and motivated; a
team player, be detail oriented and like working in a fast-paced, dynamic
environment. Must be able to juggle multiple demands and work collaboratively
with other Animal Services Staff. Work Schedule: Five (5) days a week (40 hours) on rotating

Hourly Requirements:
This position requires any
combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high
school and at least one year of clerical experience. Must have strong
computer skills and the ability to perform high volumes of data entry with a
multifaceted and complex software program, provide quality frontline customer
service, and effectively manage a multi-line telephone system. This position
requires a valid North Carolina Driver’s License, which may involve short
distant travel to meet business needs, and may involve the handling of

and interpersonal skills to lead a progressive Animal Services Division. Located in the scenic foothills of North
Carolina, Catawba County is a fast growing and diverse County with a

innovation. Animal Services is provided to the
citizens of Catawba County under the Emergency Services Department. As the Animal Services Manager, you are
responsible for managing animal shelter operations and animal control activities. Duties include planning and directing the
activities of the animal shelter and the animal control program; ensure all
state and county laws pertaining to animal welfare and animal control are
enforced; budget preparation; staff training and supervision; receiving and
responding to citizen requests for service; investigating cases of reported

degree in Veterinary Science, Business Management, or a related field and 3
years experience managing components of an animal services program, including
3 years of responsible supervisory experience; or a 2 year degree in
Veterinary Science, Business Management, or a related field and 5 years
experience managing components of an animal services program, including 3
years of responsible supervisory experience; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess the ability to deal
tactfully with the public and explain laws and ordinances. Valid NC Driver's license required. Prefer applicants with the following
certifications: 1) Euthanization, 2) Rabies Vaccination, 3) Tranquilizer,
and 4) National Animal Control Level I and Level II. This is considered Heavy Work; lifting in
excess of 100 pounds occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds more

required to live within Catawba County.
Because of the nature of the position, regular and on call work is
